Title: Optical signatures from excitons, bi-excitons, polaron-excitons and collective excitonic phases in strongly correlated electron-hole systems

Abstract:

The project addresses the appearance and nature of exciton bound states and the potential development of collective excitonic phases in novel semiconductor matrials. To this end, we discuss the optical, transport and thermodynamic properties of the exciton system, being influenced by band structure, electron correlation, and electron-phonon coupling effects. In addition, we study the interaction with external (radiation) fields. Most notably, we critically examine recent experimental findings regarding the exciton-polariton entanglement, the existence of exciton-molecules, or the formation of an excitonic insulator state.
